OUR MISSION

This blog was born partially as a reaction to one reviewer's comment regarding Russ Meyer's Mondo Topless. "No one wants to hear these strippers talk." was, if not word-for-word what was written, the general sentiment of that particular "film critic." However, the staff at Tally Rose's Foxy Ladies begs to differ; we are very interested in what these "strippers" have to say! For some peculiar reason, many film-fans still hold the belief that the actresses of sexploitation, horror, science-fiction and other cult genres are somehow less-than their counterparts in period-epics, coming-of-age dramas or the latest efforts from whichever "indie" critical-darling is being heralded as this year's "savoir of cinema."

Many of the actresses that appeared on the "B" halves of drive-in bills were savvy ladies, who could see that the lower-budget and lower-prestige films may be the back door to their dream of being in the movies. Many of them went on to greater success and acclaim in mainstream cinema, and even many more of them went on to lead fulfilling and fascinating lives both on and off the silver-screen. Here at Tally Rose's Foxy Ladies we seek to acknowledge and celebrate the lives and accomplishments of these intriguing women. Varla may not be the most politically correct or progressive representation of femininity, but who's led the more interesting life: Tura Satana or Natalie Portman? While some may find "interesting" to be a relative term, here at Tally Rose's Foxy Ladies we are firmly team Satana!
